Think about home fragrance as another tool in your interior design toolkit. Whether you opt to have a signature scent throughout or whether you select different fragrances for different rooms or different seasons, it can be used to add atmosphere and change the feeling of any space.
The most popular way to introduce interior fragrance is by using sprays, candles and diffusers, so we’ve collated some top tips to help you get the best out of these in your home.
Diffusers
What we love about diffusers is that not only do they infuse your room with a constant background scent, they also add a decorative touch to your interior. You can pick your fragrance and then pick the diffuser size that is most relevant for the space.Â
Choosing a design that works for your interior
Our absolute favourite brand for home fragrance is the Italian company, CULTI MILANO, which was founded in 1990 by Alessandro Agrati, an eclectic interior designer, who realized the strong appeal and impact that a perfume has on its environment.
A trailblazer in interior fragrance, Alessandro invented the method of rattan stick diffusion, which has changed the way perfume diffusion is used and perceived worldwide. With his interior design background, it is just as important to offer contemporary highest-quality fragrances as it is to offer beautiful designs of diffuser bottles – which means you can pick your favourite CULTI MILANO fragrance in your preferred choice of design collection to suit your interior style. And if you really want to create interior fragrance and design impact, take a look at these stunning 2700ml and 4300ml diffusers!
Rotating the reedsÂ
To enjoy the scent from your diffuser, you need to regularly rotate the reeds, allowing the ends infused in fragrance to emit the scent. The frequency with which the reeds need to be rotated, determines the intensity of the fragrance, the more they are turned, the stronger the fragrance will be. To moderate the fragrance’s diffusion, you may turn just a few reeds at a time.
How long does a fragrance last?Â
The dimensions of the space, high temperature, direct sunlight, exposure to air currents are factors that can accelerate the evaporation and therefore reduce the duration of the fragrance. Position the diffuser away from light, heat sources and currents and evaluate the format of the diffuser according to the appropriate size of the space.
As a guide the average expected life for each size diffuser is as follows:
250ml – 3 months
500ml – 4 months
1000ml – 6 months
2700ml – 9 months
4300ml – 12 months
Why are magnum diffuser reeds different from other diffuser reeds?
Rattan reeds are perfect for medium and small dimensions, but can be less efficient for bigger spaces which require larger size diffusers. The Olfactory Laboratory studies have identified that the materials and the dimensions of CULTI MILANO’S hi-tech reeds absorb and diffuse their scent in a more effective way for the larger size diffusers used in larger spaces.
Refill and re-use
We are all looking for ways to make sustainable choices where we can and what we also love about CULTI MILANO diffusers is that you are able to purchase 1000ml refills of all of their fragrances, as well as replacement reeds, enabling you to top-up and reuse your beautiful diffuser bottles for your future enjoyment, as well as saving money too.
Candle careÂ
Candles are perfect to use in rooms where you want to provide a warm glow, adding atmosphere and fragrance. Follow our tips to ensure your candles perform to their full potential. It’s definitely worth noting that the burning time of a candle can be significantly shortened if they are not cared for as suggested. And, the golden rule is to ensure you don’t leave candles unattended as well as to ensure they are out of reach of children and animals at all times..
Before burning
Ensure wicks are trimmed regularly.  The optimum length is 4/5 mm and uneven wicks can emit smoke, cause rapid or irregular burning as well as dripping.
During burning
Every time that a candle is lit, it must be burned until all the wax on the surface becomes liquid. Do not keep it lit for more than 4 hours and always keep it away from air flows/draughts. Never blow on the flame to extinguish it, to avoid the smoke impacting the fragrance.Â
After burningÂ
Before the wax solidifies, reposition the wicks vertically to their original place and clean the inside of the candle to avoid the appearance of soot.
NOTE: If you see a black smoke when it is lit, the wick must be cut and bring it to the right dimension. Make yourself sure that none of the burnt wick pieces fall in the liquid wax. If this happens, you should remove it with a soft cloth once the wax becomes solid.
